Love & Marriage: DC “Sex, Lies, and the Great Debate”

Love and Marriage: DC Season 1 Episode 4

SPOILER ALERT!!! IF YOU HAVE NOT WATCHED THIS EPISODE, LEAVE NOW AND COME BACK WHEN YOU HAVE!

For this episode, I had to talk to you guys like all of you are right here in the room with me watching this. So, excuse me if I am jumping around the whole episode because, honey, this episode has me scratching my head. Okay, so the first thing that pops in my head is how in the heck did Monique create a bigger mess between Ashleigh and Winter? Winter had no chance in this situation.

First, Monique decides to talk to Ashleigh about what Winter said during Ashleigh‘s event. That wasn’t the time or place to share tea in that manner, but I guess she had a logical reason. It just did not feel right. It had such a messy angle that no matter what Monique said, the damage was already done. She attempted to clean it up, but it was too late.  I advise her to leave Winter and Ashleigh alone and allow them to mend their fences. She has created an even stickier situation. Poor Winter.

Jayson, Jamie and Rana’s son, is anxiously awaiting news about the DOORS program. He is ready to move forward and out of his parents' home. And…. Did I mention he is not thrilled about his father choosing a career path for him? Jayson loves and respects his dad but feels he should navigate his life how he sees fit. He shares this sentiment with his mother, who forces Jayson to come clean about his feelings during a family dinner. Jamie is displeased by what he hears Jayson say, and you can see it in his face. Unfortunately for Jamie, Jayson looks determined and comfortable with his decision.

Jamie and Rana come to mind next. As these episodes go by, their relationship is shown in a better light. There is some underlying tension between these two. We were able to see glimpses of it during the first few episodes. I don’t know if it’s the pressure of being successful African Americans or the stress of family, but there is some pressure between the two, and we may see it come to a head soon. The reason for the thought is the same where Jamie and Reina were in the Home that they are planning to renovate with another couple. They were more authentic in this episode, but they were also less suppressed.

The main thing that stands out to me is that a different side of Monique is starting to show. I did not watch any previous reality show starring her. My judgment is coming purely from this reality TV series. Let’s see how this series continues with next week's episode. Until then…
