What I See
I have many things to write about, but I can’t get the things I am seeing out of my head either. I want to share the things that I see in my personal life, community, and, lastly, the media.
Personal Life:
Since life went topsy turvy in March, my home life has become quite interesting. Kids will be kids, adults will be idiots, and pets hate us being home so much. My cat Chloe has taken revenge against us, and I swear she rolls her eyes any time I step outdoors. My adult children were thrust into unemployment, and boredom took over momentarily. Thank goodness they have found ways or workarounds to quash their downtime blues. My husband, well… My minor children have adopted an “it is what it is” attitude. As for me, I want to scream but can’t. Stress is an understatement. If I focus on business ventures and work towards being a homeowner before 2021, I will be fine.
Community:
I respect everyone and their opinions. I even have respect for those who chose not to wear masks or obey the social distancing rules. What bothers me is that I see people blantantly disrespecting one another’s preference. We all know what is happening on this planet at this moment, and we all deal with it the best way we can. I know how frustrating it is to hear the recommendations that are being made by the higher ups and seeing others not adhering to it. However, and this may offend some, they are recommendations. Yeah, this loophole aka side effect of rules is the reason why so many seem to not care. If it was mandatory, then guess what? The narrative would be different. So for the outspoken and the handful of overzealous maskers, until it is compulsory in a similar fashion as seat belts, I think the disrespect towards anti-maskers should be minimized to private thoughts only. Again, just my opinion.
And for the ones against masks, please do us maskers a favor: stop calling us sheep. There are those of us that have medical conditions that have to protect ourselves. There are those of us that want to make sure that we protect others from our own bodily fluids. There are those of us that mask up because we follow recommendations. Whatever reason we have to mask up should be respected, as well as your choice to not mask. To make a choice is freedom in itself. So please, people, let’s stop the disrespect on both sides.
Media:
I’m rolling my eyes with this one. Let’s just say that cable news manufactures fear. All I see when I turn on any one of them is the opinions of others and the latest fear we should all be aware of. Their thought strikes fear or fears that were not present previously or enhances the fears we may have already had. I started looking at my local news and reading the local newspapers to exit from the opinion-based news reporting. I made that move 3 months ago. Quite honestly, I prefer hear one of my favorite local reporters report the news from the source with no additives. It helps keep the fear to a minimum and allows me to draw my own conclusion to what is being said versus what that specific reporter or cable news source is peddling. I love cable news, but I think I will stick to local for the time being.
What I see is different than the words being spoken in all three areas I spoke about. Consistency and common sense have been sidelined due to this widespread virus and the political climate change happening before our eyes here in the US. I can’t wait until there is a cure for it all. Until then, I am maintaining my stance and guarding myself from misinformation, COVID, stupidity, and all of the other weirdness floating around these days.
